Applying for jobs, sending cold emails, updating your résumé for the 100th time… it gets exhausting. And most of that happens in front of a screen. But what if I told you one of the best ways to stand out, and land a job in tech is to leave your house and show up in person?

That’s where tech conferences come in.

Why Tech Conferences Matter

Online events and communities are great but going to an in-person conference hits different. Here’s why:

  • You actually meet people face-to-face, and those connections go deeper than Twitter DMs or LinkedIn comments.
  • Companies send recruiters to scout for talent, and yes, some folks get hired on the spot.
  • It helps you get out of job-hunting mode and into community-building mode.
  • You get to learn from panels, workshops, and talks with people who are really doing the work.
  • It’s a much more energizing and fun way to move forward in your tech journey.

I’ve spoken to people who landed their first jobs in tech just by showing up.

Victor, a guest on my podcast, got his break with VISA after connecting with their recruiters at a tech conference.

Enoh was offered a job on the spot by Goldman Sachs recruiters at NSBE. She just walked up, introduced herself, had a conversation, and got an offer.

If you’re serious about breaking into tech in 2025, conferences should be part of your game plan.
